The history. . .
For many years Nannie Lee's nearest neighbors were the Beaujeans, whose house stood just to the west of the Strawberry Mansion. Before the bridge was built linking Melbourne to the beaches, the Beaujean family operated the Atlantic Ferry Service, crossing the Indian River Lagoon five time daily from Melbourne Harbour to the Melbourne Beach Pier.
Mr. Claude Beaujean, a prominent Melbourne citizen, was an accomplished boat builder and carpenter whose talent contributed to the beauty of the Strawberry Mansion's oak staircase, bay window, and gingerbread trim. An expansion of the Strawberry Mansion in 1986 created Mister Beaujean's Bar-Grille & Breakfast, named for Claude and featuring a secluded garden for outdoor dining.
